Rage to ship on three discs for Xbox 360 version

id Software has revealed that the hotly anticipated Rage will span three discs when it hits stores next month, with the developer recommending an install for those with the hard drive space to handle it.

"We recommend installing the game to the hard drive, but you don't need to install all three discs," id Software's Tim Willits suggested in a Digital Foundry interview. "If you don't have the space available on your hard drive, don't stress. Install the first disc, the first chapter, the first half of the game, then when you're done, uninstall and install disc two."

That may have some gamers concerned that we'll be swapping discs back and forth as we race across the wastelands. Digital Foundry asked whether this meant that there was a specific cut-off that made it unnecessary to swap back to the first disc.

"No, you can go back if you want to but there's really no reason to. You don't really need to install the multiplayer disc if you're really tight on hard disk space."

Rage is set for release on 7 October, so you have until then to clear up some space on that hard drive.
