Update: Remedy has since stated that talk of a third episode was a "misunderstanding", and Myllyrinne was in fact talking about the second DLC pack, The Signal.
Original Story: The Signal is dropping 27 July, and The Writer sometime after that, but - fear not! - Alan Wake isn't done scrumming about in the dark yet. Remedy Games' managing director Matias Myllyrinne has told MTV that a third DLC add-on is "coming later on this year."
Although Myllyrinne wouldn't reveal any further details on the third pack, he did drop some new information on The Signal DLC episode, but be warned, it contains spoilers for those who haven't finished the game.
The Signal takes place in the same bizarro alternate world in which the writer was imprisoned in at the end of the game. At the same time, Remedy assures us that it won't move too far into the world of weird, at least not enough to lose its grounding in the "real world" of Bright Falls.
"We have a nifty way of moving [the story] forward and materializing that into gameplay and storytelling without going into a mode of weirdness," said Myllyrinne. "For a thriller to work you need it to be grounded in reality. Otherwise all bets are off because the rules don't really apply. So we wanted to have it kind of grounded in reality but also to take a more twisted take, because this is an extreme place and position he finds himself in."
Well, anything that sheds light (get it, "sheds light"? I'm hilarious.) on the ambiguous ending works for me.
