Remedy has done a pretty good job of keeping us in the dark with regards to the latest exploits of Alan Wake, but that all started to change with the official announcement of the Xbox LIVE Arcade stand-alone digital spin-off, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, at this years VGAs.
Playing out as part of the fictional TV show Night Springs, Alan must pursue his evil serial killing doppelganger, Mr. Scratch, across the Arizona mesa towards the town of Night Springs, and thwart his plans which involve Alan's wife, Alice. Once again, Alan must learn to control reality and use the power of light to overcome the darkness that is Mr. Scratch.
Remedy also detailed a new arcade survival mode entitled "Fight till Dawn," which sees players taking on a relentless onslaught of old and new enemies for the duration of an entire night, all in the glorious name of high scores displayed on online leaderboards. Luckily Remedy is not leaving you up darkness creek without a paddle, placing a "deep" arsenal of weapons at Wake’s disposal, ranging from old favourites like the flare gun, to the new (and soon to be favourite) nail gun. Safe havens with unlockable weapons will also be scattered across the landscape for a quick breather or just a break from all the killing.
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare will be available sometime mid Q1 2012 on Xbox LIVE. In the meantime, check out the extended version of the announcement trailer from the VGAs below.
