Remedy working to improve facial animation in Alan Wake

Alan Wake

It's not yet out here, of course, but Alan Wake's already attracting some unfavourable attention elsewhere for what is apparently some exceedingly bad lip syncing and facial animation.

Remedy's Markus Maki has addressed the problem in a forum post, saying, "We have a few different methods of doing facial animation - in-game using FaceFX and motion capture used in cinematics. While I think it'll always be possible to get 'fugly' single frames out of any game we definitely learned a lot doing Alan Wake, and will try to improve the way we do things to get best possible looking facials. In fact, we're using some of the improvements in the DLC production already."

So, if you're more terrified by the way the characters look than anything else in the game - well, they're working on that.
