2008's Prince of Persia was a smooth yet simple reboot of the ageing franchise, focusing on streamlining the action to make it fun to play and gorgeous to look at, and it scored highly with gamers and critics alike. With the latest installment Ubisoft has gone back to the Sands of Time storyline, and we've taken a look at how the press is rating the Prince's progress so far...
- Eurogamer: "For all its basic surface pleasures, The Forgotten Sands seems content to indulge our fondness for the past without ever giving us reason to be excited about the future." - 6.0
- GameTrailers: "Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is serviceable enough, but a grand return to form it isn’t. Frankly, it feels a little warmed over." - 7.8
- Giant Bomb: "The Forgotten Sands is the very definition of a pretty good Prince of Persia game that doesn't feel like it entirely lives up to the series' vaunted pedigree." - 3/5
- 1Up: "It's a fantastic installment for newcomers to the Prince of Persia series, but those who've been Persia fans since Sands of Time may find The Forgotten Sands mildly forgettable." - B+
- IGN: "Forgotten Sands is much better than the 2008 Prince of Persia, but still not as great as Sands of Time – the game it so obviously seeks to recapture the spirit of." - 8.0
- Metacritic score: 74
The most noticeable complaint seems to be the lack of anything new for fans of the series, while on the other hand, newcomers can look forward to experiencing what made the original games such a hit.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands was meant to release this Friday, however, according to a tweet by Kalahari, the local release has been delayed until next week Tuesday, 25 May. We've requested confirmation from Megarom, and will let you know as soon as we've got feedback.
