Rockstar Games has announced Red Dead Redemption, the sequel to the 2004 western shooter, Red Dead Revolver. Expected sometime in spring 2009, Red Dead Redemption is set at the turn of the 20th century as you follow the story of former outlaw, John Marston, on his adventure across the lawless and chaotic badlands of the changing American frontier.

Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world's last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it

Red Dead Redemption will use the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), seen in GTA IV and Midnight Club: Los Angeles, and feature an open-world enviroment including frontier towns and rolling prairies... sounds like GTA with a western theme.
