Update: Crytek has denied the recent rumours regarding development for the next Xbox, saying in a statement to IGN: "Crytek do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail."
Original Story: A new gaming console from Microsoft is pretty much a certainty, but the company has been very careful to keep any plans tightly under wraps. Now a "high ranking industry source" from Crytek has revealed to Videogamer.com that the developer is working on TimeSplitters 4 for the next generation Xbox, hinting at E3 2012 as a likely reveal date for the new console.
According to the source, Crytek are currently using Microsoft's DirectX 11 tech - which includes features like Tessellation, multithreaded rendering, and compute shaders - as a platform for development for the next Xbox. The industry insider claims that "TimeSplitters 4 is currently being demonstrated internally, is being built with CryEngine 3, and was being shown privately in video form at E3 2011."
The new tech apparently provides graphics that are "noticeably improved over current generation technology", with the DX11 tessellation effects allegedly having a huge impact on the visuals.
As you can imagine, both Crytek and Microsoft have declined to comment on the matter.
