After an action-packed 2010 debut, EA has now announced that Klei Entertainment are currently working on a sequel for the 2D side-scrolling beat-em-up Shank, currently pencilled in for an Xbox LIVE Arcade release next year.
"Creatively, Shank still has a lot to give,” said Klei Entertainment boss Jamie Cheng . “We took the feedback from the community and ran with it, putting our own flavor on every change. For Shank 2, we literally took apart the game and put it back together to push the envelope in combat mechanics, visuals, and 2D animation in games."
For Shank 2, our hero - an ex-mob hitman - is urged back into the fray to save the lives of those closest to him. According the the official Shank 2 blog, Klei Entertainment has "redesigned all the underlying systems to give [us] twice the fidelity and far more control" over the lead character. The sequel will also introduce a co-op mode, where gamers will be "working together to take down their foes, relying on the environment and weapon pick-ups for survival."
Shank 2 is scheduled for a Xbox LIVE Arcade release sometime early 2012.
