British indie developer Stainless Games has announced that Carmageddon - once the torchbearer in the world of controversial gaming - is set to make a comeback, with Carmageddon: Reincarnation in development for a digital release in 2012.
"Carmageddon: Reincarnation will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success," said Stainless Games co-founder Neil Barnden. "All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt."
Cast your minds back to Carmageddon's roots and you will recall that while the third game in the series, Carmageddon TDR 2000, was utter pants, the first two games were rather special. And it was those first two for which Stainless Games were responsible for.
Here's hoping that Stainless Games can re-create some of that magic with Carmageddon: Reincarnation when it arrives next year.
