Pandemic's stealth action game The Saboteur will be with us just in time to fill a few Christmas stockings, todays press release has revealed. In a world over-populated with WWII frag fests, it's refreshing to see a developer taking on a familiar scenario in a new way.
As the title suggests, The Saboteur is all about taking apart the Nazi warmachine from within, using stealthy guerrilla-style tactics to try to break their control over the city of love. Set in Paris, protagonist Sean Devlin (if you're thinking that doesn't sound very French, it's not. He's Irish) is on course to cause underhanded havoc along the cobbled streets.
As part of a personal quest for revenge (you know how it goes, dead girlfriend, missing father, disabled rabbit etc), Devlin uses his skills to cut away at the Nazi regime as they occupy France's capital city. As he does this, various regions are uplifted and begin to rise up against the oppressors. This is where we see a big part of the games stylistic approach, as Paris starts off black and white but is slowly flooded with colour as the 'Will to Fight' increases.
The Saboteur hype-machine is bound to start gathering momentum over the coming months, heading towards a European release date of December 4. It shouldn't be far off to assume that we can expect a similar date here in SA.
