THQ has officially announced the sequel to Vigil Games' fantastic action adventure game Darksiders, with Darksiders 2 following the exploits of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in a story that runs parallel to the original as Death tries to redeem his brother War who happened to be blamed for prematurely starting the Apocalypse.
Awakened by the End of Days, Death, the most feared of the legendary Four Horsemen, embarks upon a quest to restore mankind, and redeem his brother’s name. Along the way, the Horseman discovers that there are far worse things than an earthly Apocalypse, and that an ancient grudge may threaten all of Creation... Can DEATH really become mankind’s savior?
Vigil Games are of course back at the helm for the sequel and are promising to deliver a richer experience with a larger world, full weapon and armor upgrade systems, bigger and more challenging dungeons, and new enemies and bosses.
"We have taken the best parts of Darksiders and improved on them with a host of new mechanics and features," said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President of Core Games. "You will see great things from this epic game."
Darksiders 2 is set for release sometime in 2012, just in time for that real-life apocalypse everyone is going on about.
Look out for the debut trailer which is set to be released later today. In the meantime, check out the first art from the game, featured on an upcoming GameInformer cover.
