After initially getting our hopes up, then subsequently dashing them a few months later, it finally looks like Frozenbyte's physics-based action platformer will be coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, with the announcement of Trine 2.
Trine 2 sees the return of the powerful trio of the knight, roque and wizard, as they battle through physics-based puzzles and fantastical locations in an all-new adventure. And this time, it can be done in both offline and online co-operative multiplayer.
"The Trine series is a bastion of pure gaming fun," stated Aram Jabbari, Manager of Public Relations and Sales for Atlus. "Expanding upon what was considered one of the best cooperative multiplayer experiences in recent memory, Trine 2 introduces online cooperative support for up to three players, dramatically expanding the fun and appeal of the game's spectacularly rich action platforming. In addition, the unique traits and abilities of the three character types in Trine 2 mean more now than ever before, with enhanced skill trees and progression ensuring perfect balance."
Publisher Atlus currently only lists "digital distribution" for the platforms, and when XG contacted them directly, all we got was: "We cannot officially confirm any platforms at this time, although our target platforms were discussed in our E3 meetings." XG wasn't able to attend those meetings, however, according to Joystiq and 1UP, the proposed platforms are PSN, PC, and of course, XBLA.
Trine 2 is expected to release sometime in autumn 2011, and XG will be keeping a close eye on this one. In the mean time, check out the announcement trailer and screenshots below.
