Trouble at Infinity Ward as Activision cites 'insubordination' [Updated 2]

Update 2: Activision has confirmed that both Jason West and Vince Zampella are no longer with Infinity Ward, and that Steve Pearce, chief technology officer and Steve Ackrich, head of production at Activision will lead Infinity Ward on an interim basis.

Update: Vince Zampella has also changed his LinkedIn status, referring to his current situation as being "TBD" or to be determined.

Original Story: According to a report on G4TV, Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward has been surrounded by "bouncer-type" security this morning, following a meeting of studio seniors Vince Zampella and Jason West with Activision. Neither employee has apparently returned to the studio, and Jason West's Facebook and LinkedIn profile now indicates he's unemployed.

G4 also managed to dig up an Activision Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, citing an HR investigation into "breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward." I'm sure there's a pun about breaches in there somewhere.

The matter is ongoing and we'll keep you updated as soon as more information becomes available. This will surely affect Activision's relationship with the popular Call of Duty developer though, and it will be interesting to see how both companies handle it.

We could see a break away studio, or perhaps Activision will feel compelled to create all future COD games in-house, so as not to have similar problems.

Really came out of no where though. IW is probably Activision's biggest development studio in terms of annual turn over, so it will be interesting to see how this turns out.
