Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced Mortal Kombat, the lastest chapter in the long running fight franchise, which is set to make a welcome return to its more mature roots with what is being called the most brutal instalment of the game to date.

The series has lost some of its shine over the years, so it will be good to see a return to form, with the upcoming reboot set to feature new tag team modes, co-op arcade mode, a deep single-player story, and all the blood we've come to expect from the Mortal Kombat name.

“We can’t wait for players to get their hands on Mortal Kombat. This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever,” said creative director at developer NetherRealm Studios, Ed Boon.

Mortal Kombat is coming to the Xbox 360 console sometime in 2011. And it will support Project Natal... Ok, I made that up, but wouldn't that be freakin AWESOME?
