Warner Bros. regains its precious Lord of the Rings license

Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings game license has returned to Warner Bros. after a prolonged stay with EA, and it's unlikely to leave anytime soon according to an article on Variety.com.

EA first started developing titles under the Lord of the Rings title when it temporarily acquired the license back in 2001. During this period New Line has become increasingly involved with its parent company, Warner Bros., which now boasts a videogame unit capable of producing AAA titles. With EA's LOTR license ending in 2008, and two Hobbit movies on the way, I'm sure Warner Bros. Entertainment Interactive are just itching to start developing their own LOTR titles.

If you're wondering how EA's last LOTR title held up, be sure to check our Lord of the Rings: Conquest review.

I've played quite a few of EA's LOTR games, from the action games to the strategy games, and not one of them has truely impressed me. Being a fan of the movies, I'm really interested ot see what a fresh approach like this can bring to the franchise of games. I wonder who Warner Bros. will choose to do the first title. My bets on Monolith and it will play similar to a LOTR themed Condemned ;)
