Microsoft has announced that their motion sensor for the Xbox 360, Kinect, has surpassed 2.5 million units sold worldwide since its launch 25 days ago.
“We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand,” said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft.
Comparatively, the Sony Move managed 1 million units in North and Latin America in its first 30 days, with sales estimates for Europe coming in at around 1.5 million units. In other words, both new entries into the motion-controlled gaming world are neck and neck so far.
Microsoft will of course be hoping their $500 million advertising campaign will pay off this Holiday, achieving their target of 5 million units by the end of the year.
