Microsoft has announced that they've sold a whopping 66 million Xbox 360 consoles worldwide, making Redmond's gaming powerhouse the "first in console sales".

The console's reputation as the leader in online gaming and entertainment was also cemented with news that Xbox LIVE now has almost 40 million members, while sales for the motion controller peripheral Kinect has managed to surpass 18 million units in the last year.

With figures like these it looks like the Xbox 360 is still going strong as we head into what will probably be the twilight years for the current generation of consoles.
