Microsoft has announced via Major Nelson's blog that a system update which adds USB memory support for the Xbox 360 console is now ready to roll over Xbox LIVE.

We recently dished out the details for the update which allows gamers to store profiles, game saves and more on standard USB flash drives and hard drives. As mentioned, while any brand of flash drive will get the job done, there will be premium (read: expensive) branded SanDisc drives available sometime soon for those who like their stuff Xbox 360 branded.

Xbox.com has also been updated to cover the new storage option, and is worth a read if you become stuck.
