With the release of the new Xbox 360 dashboard fast approaching, Microsoft has revealed that Xbox.com is also set to get an update "in the coming days", with new social features and an improved Video Marketplace (where available).
Perhaps the most significant part of the update will be on the 'My Xbox' section which will be replaced by a new Social hub. Styled in the Metro look (Microsoft's codename for the style being used in the new Xbox 360 dashboard), the Social hub will include new features such as Xbox LIVE Beacons, which is essentially a way to alert friends that you're looking for more players for a specific game. You can set three Beacons at a time, as well as add comments to Beacons such as the time you'll be playing or perhaps the game mode, such as Horde.
Along with Xbox LIVE Beacons, the Social hub will include a new Friends' Activity and My Activity stream so that you can keep up to date with whose playing what, including what Beacons your friends have set.
In addition to the new Social features, a new Video section that lets you browse the Zune video catalog, and purchase or rent movies and TV shows to watch later on your Xbox 360, Windows Phone, or Zune media player, will be added in regions which support it.
Look out for these features, and more, on Xbox.com "in the coming days", followed by the new Xbox 360 dashboard which is expected "Holiday 2011", so anytime from now until the end of the year.
