Xbox LIVE South Africa gets Optional Media/Codec Update - Finally!

After nearly a year, the Optional Media Update license required to play MPEG4 encoded movies such as Xvid extensions and unprotected music (AAC format) from iPods on your Xbox 360 console is finally available for download on the South African Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Xbox LIVE launched in South Africa in November last year, and while the lack of content has slowly been remedied, media junkies have had to look elsewhere (or create dummy UK/US accounts) to stream their movies and music due to the update not being available on the local Marketplace.

Good to see the South African Marketplace getting some much needed loving, although it's still sparse compared to the UK and US. Hopefully this will improve as more publishers wake up to the fact that SA is a market worth pushing their products to.

You can queue the update over here.
