XG's Game of the Year 2009

Game of the Year 2009

For 3 weeks XG has run a poll asking visitors to vote for their favourite games of 2009. The votes have since been tallied and we can now reveal the winners of both the Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE Arcade Game of the Year 2009 polls. But before we jump into the poll results, I'd like to congratulate the following gamers who've each won a prize just by voting:

  • Angus Pollock - Winner of Borderlands
  • Jean Potgieter - Winner of Halo 3: ODST
  • Diederick Barnard - Winner of 1600 or 2100 MS Points sponsored by MSPoints.co.za

Well done, and I hope you enjoy your prizes. For those who missed out, remember we have many more competitions lined up in the new year, and don't forget to enter the WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2010 competition which closes on 3 January.

Right, now for the results of the poll. The top position was hotly contested, with the number 1 spot changing hands on many occasions during the three weeks. At the end though, one game emerged as the most popular, and this year the majority of gamers decided that Infinity Ward's first person shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, is their Xbox 360 Game of the Year 2009. The battle for the Arcade Game of the Year was just as heated thanks to the wide selection of great games coming out in on Xbox LIVE Arcade in 2009. There were many favourites but Epic Games' Shadow Complex proved to be the most popular, taking the top position in our Arcade Game of the Year 2009 poll.

2009 has been yet another great year for Xbox 360 gamers. And with 2010 already packed to the brim with hotly anticipated sequels and new IPs, it looks like it will only get better.
