Ice hockey isn't the best known sport down here in sunny South Africa, especially with the fact that snow and ice are seldom found in places other than the top of a mountain peak in the heart of winter. So a video game based around ice hockey will have to appeal to South African gamers with something other than reams of stats and up to date rosters. Luckily 2K Sports has seen fit to make NHL 2K10 a game that does just that ...

Do you remember that holiday you took with your family as a child, that one where everything went wrong and you found yourself longing for it to come to an end? The one where your suitcase ended up on the wrong flight, your sister pulled your pants down in front of the girl/boy you fancied, and it rained the whole time? It wasn't long before all you could think about was going home, where it was safe, right? Well, that's the Risen experience in a nutshell. Never before have I felt so miserable while playing a game, and I've played some real shockers in my day ...

When Diablo 2 arrived on PC in 2000 it brought the action RPG genre to a whole new audience. You didn't have to worry yourself over pages of dry statistics or wind your way through mazes of dialogue to progress through the game. All you really had to worry about was clicking fast enough on your enemies to kill them before they killed you. Now take that and instead of a fantasy hero, substitute in superheroes from the Marvel universe and you've got Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (MUA2) in a nutshell ...

When you think of Halo the first thing that pops into your head is Master Chief, the tough-as-nails lead character that single handedly fights back the covenant while saying as little as possible. So when you load up Halo 3: ODST and start out playing the campaign as a no name ODST soldier you might find yourself a tiny bit disappointed. Don't worry though, Bungie has something special in store for those that persevere.. ...

Considering that today's children will become tomorrows gaming addicted, socially dysfunctional teenagers, it may be seen as odd that more game publishers aren't hard at work getting the little ones hooked while they are still too young to know any better. Disney Pixar seem to have the right idea though, with the game based on their latest animated film, Up. It's obvious that what they had in mind here is for parent and child to get stuck in together, co-operatively solving puzzles and helping each other along the way ...

To paraphrase a popular saying, there are three things you can be sure of in life: death, taxes and shooting Nazis in WW2 themed FPS games. So it should come as no surprise that Wolfenstein from Raven Software comes filled to the brim with Death and Nazis, and maybe even taxes ...

I tried to explain Trials HD to a friend the other day, doing what I could to paint a picture of what it feels like play this game, and I was met with a blank stare like a Jack Russel who had just been shown a card trick. That is to be expected, I suppose, because the basic premise of Trials HD is not only very simple, it actually sounds down right boring. Guide your little motorbike man across a warehouse filled with scaffolding, planks and ramps, as quickly as you can, leaning back and forth and trying not to fall off. Not quite a life changing game experience, when you look at it in black and white ...

A couple of years back Red Faction burst onto the PC scene. It was your run of the mill FPS game with not much to recommend it above the hundreds of other Doom clones of its time other than one feature; fully destructible environments. It didn't make much of a splash after the initial excitement had worn off and was slowly forgotten by most gamers. Then out of the blue THQ went and dropped Red Faction Guerrilla into our laps and with it they gave us one of the most enjoyable games of the year so far ...

Gamers have become used to THQ bringing out annual updates to their WWE franchise, with each game either trying to go all out simulation (as is the case with the last few WWE vs Smackdown games) or trying to be accessible with an arcade approach (such as Legends of Wrestlemania). UFC Undisputed 2009 comes across as a deep and technical fighting game, yet it still remains accessible to the grappling novices out there. Fans have had to wait 5 years to see the unique brand of mixed martial arts (MMA) come together in video game form, and thankfully, it just so happens to be one of this generation's best fighting games ...

To accurately use this review as a metaphor for the game in question, I would have to start off with a fun paragraph to prepare you for the tone of what's to come, followed by a lively bit about the story line and the updated 3D graphics, and then once you are settled in and ready to get stuck into the body of the review, it would end ...
