WWE Legends of WrestleMania Review

WWE Legends of WrestleMania Logo

The World Wrestling Federation (WWF) as it was known when it arrived in South Africa made its first appearance on local screens during the 90s and captivated a whole generation of youngsters who fell in love with the spectacle and showmanship that made up wrestling. Most of us knew it was all fake of course, but that didn't stop us rooting for wrestlers like the Undertaker or Bret "The Hitman" Hart when they entered the ring. Slowly we all grew out of that phase though and I haven't watched an actual wrestling match in years, but THQ and YUKE's are hoping that they can once again ignite the nostalgic passion most of us once had for wrestling in its heyday by releasing WWE Legends of Wrestlemania which gives us 42 of the sport's finest wrestlers, and tasks us with reliving or redefining the Wrestlemania matches that have stood out as some of the best ever fought. ...

Ninja Blade Review

Ninja Balde Logo

Ninjas are cool, there's no denying that. Just watch an episode of Ask A Ninja or watch Kill Bill and you'll see why so many people have fallen in love with Ninjas. They're stealthy assassins who manage to overcome everything in their way to kill their target. So when you're presented with a game based on ninjas you'd expect it to be one of the best games ever made without even breaking a sweat. Ninja Gaiden managed to become one of last year's top titles by providing gamers with a great mix of visceral action and deep combat even though it was at some points one of the most frustrating games ever made and came with a camera intent on killing you by making you oblivious of nearby enemies. Now Microsoft Game studios and From Software have joined forces to bring us Ninja Blade. ...

Resident Evil 5 Review

Resident Evil 5 Logo

Since Night of the Living Dead was released in the 60s, zombies have always held an appeal for those of us who prefer our action movies to be tense and packed full of gore. Capcom saw that gamers were crying out for a chance to wade through hordes of the undead and released Resident Evil in 1996 for the Playstation into the clamouring hands of gamers eager to take on the nefarious Umbrella Corporation and its abominable creations. Since then Resident Evil has become one of the most well known and widely loved franchises for many modern day gamers and so it comes as no surprise that Capcom has released Resident Evil 5. ...

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand Review

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand Logo

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand (BotS) is the sort of game you know won't win any game of the year awards and won't be lauded for its gameplay or graphics but regardless, you find yourself playing it and for some weird reason enjoying it. It all comes down to the fact that BotS at no point takes itself seriously. The story is ludicrous, the characters are paper thin and the gameplay is repetitive but all the while, there just seems to be a sense of fun that keeps drawing you back to see if Fiddy gets his diamond skull back ...

Dead Space Review

Dead Space Logo

Those readers that follow the industry closely will know that a few years ago, EA Games were portrayed in the public eye as being the equivalent to the wicked witch of the west, if you could imagine the gaming industry being the equivalent of the wonderful land of Oz. Ok, well maybe I’m being a bit harsh but they did bare such a stigma due to their stance on incessant annualized sequels and shameless franchise cash-ins. As a result, they where mildly disliked (at the very best) amongst the hardcore of gamers. I’m glad to say that the EA of old is making an effort to turn itself around. Recently, they’ve been trying to prove that they’ve changed for the better and that this time, they have the gamer’s best interest at heart. You know what? It shows... it shows quite clearly with Dead Space. ...

Rise of the Argonauts Review

Rise of the Argonauts Logo

With the release of the movie 300 a while back it was proven that Greek mythology can still sell well in this day and age. Rise of the Argonauts is a game by Liquid Entertainment that features all the mythos and backstory prevalent in Greece but with none of the grandiose visuals or the ability to get your blood pumping. Upon loading up RoA you begin the game seeing how your character's wife Alceme is assassinated by a clan of mystics known as the Blacktongues. Overcome with remorse over the loss of his wife, Jason decides to begin a mission to bring her back to life and so he travels to the Oracle of Delphi where he learns that the only way to accomplish this is to gain possession of the Golden Fleece of legend. From here your journey as Jason begins as you set sail with a band of heroes on the Argonauts' ship to restore your beloved's life. ...

Peggle Review

Peggle Logo

My first encounter with Peggle was about a year ago when there was talk of a Xbox port. I wasn’t sure what all the hype was about so I downloaded it for the PC just to try it out and I have to say it took about 5 minutes for me to become hooked. ...

Lord of the Rings: Conquest Review

Lord of the Rings: Conquest Logo

Lord of the Rings (LOTR) was one of the most successful movie franchises of all time and managed to bridge the gap between the original literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien and the silver screen like never before. The expected slew of tie-in games rushed onto the scene with many of them falling short of the mark in terms of gameplay and failing to match the films' grandiose setting. Several years down the line EA has decided to release Lord of the Rings: Conquest to satiate fans' appetite for more adventures in Tolkien's Middle Earth. Have they managed to topple the stigma of average games based on movies or have they fallen at the feet of the mighty beast known as CashIn? ...

3 on 3 NHL Arcade Review

3 on 3 NHL Arcade Logo

EA Sports, under their more casual light-hearted banner called EA Sports Freestyle, have brought us 3 on 3 NHL Arcade. What do I feel about this game? Well in all honesty it is one extremely frustrating game that left me wanting to check my opponents right out of the ice rink. It is a typical arcade style ice hockey game which allows up to four players offline and six players through Xbox Live. There is not much to this game as there is only one game mode, quick play. ...
